Latest News in the World of Technology | Everything Happened At AI Safety Summit

From the appearance of the all-famous ChatGPT from OpenAI, the world was introduced to the convenience and adaptability of artificial intelligence. New jobs emerged from those who are working with a new technology, while others despise the overuse of AI in certain places.

In November 2023, strong nations across the world gathered at the AI Safety Summit to address the issue of the usage and development of the topic. More than 25 countries and top experts like Elon Musk attended the summit and created some understanding and results across the event. Many sites, including Slotoro, use artificial intelligence technology. So, let’s learn more about it!

Nations Gather to Maintain AI Safety

Different nations agree that the rapid development in recent years has created a new phenomenon and threat to the world. And if it is not controlled, it will bring great harm to governments and society.

Each of the government bodies has created safeguards and regulations about AI usage and development, but those are not as detailed as the other laws in place. Therefore, strong countries present have signed the “Bletchley Declaration” stating that all countries that participated in the signage must work together and establish a common goal for development. Below are some of the countries signed:

  • United States,
  • European Union,
  • China.

This summit also improved each country’s understanding of the development in each respective country. They exchange information, doubts, and concerns over the future aspect of this particular category. Therefore, the declaration acts as a middle ground that governs over 28 countries in the development of artificial intelligence.

Elon Musk’s Opinion on the AI Safety Summit

As one of the main technology giants in the world, Elon Musk personally attended the summit and said that the declaration’s purpose is to find the middle ground that controls the world’s development.

He stated, and we quote: “What we’re really aiming for here is to establish a framework for insight so that there’s at least a third-party referee, an independent referee, that can observe what leading companies are doing and at least sound the alarm if they have concerns.”

He also commented that after Britain had published the declaration as the goal of the summit that was signed by 28 countries and the EU. At the summit, they also have 2 agenda that focuses on finding the risk of developing advanced Artificial Intelligence and building more understanding before the real problem starts to arise.

Apple Pursues AI Development and Willing to Spend Billions

Another story about the topic is that currently, Apple has been planning to find the leaders in generative Artificial intelligence technology and spend billions of dollars on them.

Apple is also not too rushed in being the first to develop Artificial Intelligence according to Anshel Sag, a technology analyst based in Austin, Texas. Because Apple has been focusing on developing better security and privacy rather than focusing on Artificial Intelligence, which is why they have been falling behind Google and Microsoft in recent years.

Although the word billion may scare other companies, in Apple’s world 1 billion in R&D is just little compared to their annual spending of $30 billion per year. So they may have just not taken AI too seriously in a couple of recent years.

Here is a table of how much Apple has advanced during the recent years in AI development:

2018Apple made a significant move by acquiring Xnor.ai, a startup based in Seattle. This company was renowned for its proficiency in crafting efficient algorithms tailored for edge devices, such as the iPhone.
2019Apple secured the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business. This strategic acquisition not only bolstered Apple’s team with seasoned engineers but also enriched its knowledge base in the realm of wireless AI chips.
2020Apple introduced the A14 chip, featuring a dedicated neural engine designed to expedite machine learning tasks. With each subsequent generation of its A-series chips, Apple has consistently broadened its capabilities, further solidifying its commitment to AI advancement.
2022Apple made waves by unveiling Core ML 4, a groundbreaking development that streamlines the deployment of machine Learning models on Apple devices. Concurrently, Apple disclosed ambitious plans to transition their Mac product line to incorporate in-house AI chips, marking a significant stride in their pursuit of innovation.

Final Thoughts

Conclusively, the world of artificial intelligence may be concerning for some, but for others, it has still been a faraway dream. For solving the world’s problems, there are other more important matters at hand like global warming, saving the earth, finances, safety, and more. But to have different countries come together and agree for the common good is something that we have not seen in recent years. The future of artificial intelligence is going in the right direction.
