Personal Details

Ankita Sharma was born on 25 April 1992 in a small village of Durg district, Chhattisgarh. Her father, Rakesh Sharma, is a businessman and her mother, Savita Sharma, is a homemaker. She has a younger brother, Ankit Sharma, who is an engineer. Ankita was a bright and studious child who had a dream of becoming an IPS officer since childhood. She did her schooling from a government school in Durg and then pursued her MBA from the same city. She got married to Vivekanand Shukla, a Major in the Indian Army, in 2016. Her husband is currently posted in Mumbai.

Student Life

Ankita Sharma was always passionate about cracking the UPSC exam and serving the nation. She started preparing for the exam after completing her MBA. She moved to Delhi for six months to join a coaching institute, but then returned to her hometown and continued her self-study. She faced many challenges and difficulties during her preparation, such as lack of guidance, frequent transfers of her husband, and social pressure. She also had to balance her personal and professional life. She failed twice in the UPSC exam, but did not give up and qualified the exam in her third attempt in 2018. She secured the 203rd rank in the UPSC exam and became the first woman IPS officer from Chhattisgarh to get home cadre.

Journey as an IPS Officer

Ankita Sharma joined the IPS in 2018 and underwent training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. She also received training at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and the National Police Academy in Islamabad. She was posted as the Municipal Superintendent of Police (CSP) in Azad Chowk, Raipur, where she handled various issues related to municipal administration and public safety. She was also praised for her initiatives to improve the traffic management and sanitation in the city. In July 2021, she was transferred to the Naxal-affected Bastar district as the ASP and was given the responsibility of leading the anti-Naxal operation. She is the first woman IPS officer to command the operation in the region.
